When should I be immunized?

The best time to get the HPV vaccine is between the ages of 9 and 14, well before becoming sexually active. The vaccine protects best if it is administered before any possibility of HPV exposure. This is why the HPV vaccine is routinely offered in school to Grade 6 students in Alberta.

Getting immunized after sexual activity has occurred.

The HPV vaccine can still be useful after sexual activity has occurred, since it may offer protection from HPV-related health problems that that you have not yet been exposed to.
